How to Search Old Tweets

Twitter users know how difficult is to search through their profile to search old tweets

Imagine you want to find memories of yours that you posted on Twitter and you can't go through everything from the latest to the old one you want to find.

On Instagram, you can easily scroll through posts and can find the old posts within 5 minutes and Facebook takes you through memories periodically, it recommends you share your memories with your friends but on Twitter, you can't find those easy options.

So in this blog post, I will be answering "How to find old tweets by Date".

Two ways to Find Old Tweets by Date

  • Format Search on Mobile
  • Advanced Search on Desktop

Advanced search can't be done on Mobile App but format search can be done on both Mobile and Desktop/Laptop. I am going to explain both methods with images of what I did for your better understanding.

These methods will help you to search for old tweets.

1. Format Search on Mobile

The following method helps you to search for tweets by date on the app.

Step 1 -  Open your Twitter mobile app on your Andriod or IOS.

Step 2 - Select the "Search" option available.

Step 3 - In the search box of the search page type "from:username since:yyyy-mm-dd until:yyyy-mm-dd", in the username part, type the username, not the display name of the user you want to search for as in Fig 2.

Step 4 - Make sure that you typed that exactly as it was mentioned in the above step to get the results.

Once you entered and selected search, you will find the results which are the tweets of the user you searched for in the period of time you mentioned in the search as shown in Fig 3

When you searched in Mobile App (Android), your results will be like as shown in the above image.

This method can be used to find tweets of any dates from any user. So save this format search so you access this method even when you forget this in the future.

from:username since:yyyy-mm-dd until:yyyy-mm-dd

Don't confuse (-) [dash] with (/) [slash].

You can also this method in Desktop/Laptop browsers.

This method is tested and found effective for users.

2. Advanced Search on Desktop

Step 1 - Log in to your Twitter account in your Desktop browser.

Step 2 - Select the "Explore" option from the homepage and type the user name in the search bar and from the "Advanced Search" from the "Search filters" menu on the top right of the page as shown in Fig 4.

Step 3 - You can also directly access it by searching "Twitter Advanced Search" on Google, to access it.

Step 4 - In the Advanced search, you can search for very specific details like exact phrases, reply sent to, mentioned someone, engagement, and several filters like in Fig 5.

Step 5 - But now we're only going to see the results from minimum steps, so type the "Username with @" in the "From these accounts" under the Accounts menu and select the from and to dates from the Dates menu.

Step 6 - After giving those details in the Advanced search option, now select "Search" from the top right of the pop-up page.

It will show you the tweets from the user in the time period you searched for. This method is just the long version of the Format Search option.

By these methods, you can search old tweets by date and by users if you correctly enter the search details.

Conclusion

I hope you learned How to search for old tweets.

The second method only works on browsers because there is no "Advanced search" on Mobile apps.

So mobile users try the first method, all you have to do is that copy that format and modify it for your search term and you will get the results.

This method is used to find old tweets of others by date.

By following the above methods you can search old tweets of any user not only from your account.

These two methods are up to date, so you don't have to worry about whether it will work or not. I wrote this article while testing it and given my results along with this article.
